A Memorial Day Message From Rick Berg

For over 140 years, Americans have reserved a special day to honor those military men and women who have fallen in battle. Today, Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember the sacrifice of all Americans who have died while serving our country and defending our freedoms.

It is important that we take time to remember and celebrate our fellow Americans who sacrificed their lives in protection of our freedoms and liberties. As we remember those we have lost, we also honor the families whose lives have been forever changed by the loss of their loved ones.  These military families have sacrificed more than most of us, God willing, will ever have to know.

North Dakota has an incredible history of military service and a legacy of selfless sacrifice.  We are home to thousands of veterans and service members, two Air Force Bases and numerous Air and Army National Guard posts. I’ve had the honor to meet many of these military families, including those who have lost loved ones while serving in the armed forces. 

It is a privilege to meet with those whose spouses, parents, siblings and children gave so much to our nation, sacrificing their lives to defend our freedom.

I hope you will join with me today in honoring those who have fallen and their families, and thanking those brave men and women – both past and present – who have served in our armed forces.  They made our country what it is today, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid.
